Sue Age: 62 Breast Cancer Recovering Sue is a talented jewelry maker living in northern New Mexico. She has a reserved but very rich personality that is truly endearing. Her beauty resonates outwardly from her soul and it becomes easy to feel like a moth to a flame in her presence. When I first met her, she was extremely uncomfortable in front of my camera. She didn’t really want her photo to be taken and claimed that she blinked every time the shutter went off. I didn’t believe her and thought she was just being self-effacing until I looked at the first six shots. To my surprise she had blinked in every single one of them. We laughed as we looked through them together on the back of my camera. I told her that she had nothing to worry about because my camera and lens captured how beautiful she is. After that, in all the photos I took of her, she never blinked again. A few days after photographing her, by chance we ran into one another again. I wanted to do some other photos of her outside of the treatment clinic. She agreed and then asked me if I ever wore any other rings besides my understated wedding band? Even though I said no, she told me that she had a turquoise ring that would look great on me. I'll admit that I was intrigued despite never thinking of wearing something as bold as turquoise. When we got together a few weeks later, I asked about the ring. Upon opening her jewelry case, there was one that stood out from all the other pieces. It was the ring that she wanted me to have. Mine is the brother ring to the one she is wearing in these photos and it almost never comes off my hand. It reminds me daily of a very courageous, very creative and very beautiful woman.
